2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG: Meet the EV G-Wagen

Another great SUV is coming soon. It is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG, or as some call it, the EV G-Wagen. Mercedes is a well-known name in the automotive industry. When you buy a vehicle with its tag, you know what you are getting. Pristine German engineering, a luxury interior, a modern-looking exterior, and a reliable powertrain.

Their cars last the test of time, and they are worth the money. Now the manufacturers have announced another SUV of their own. This time it will be an electric-only version, and this is a good thing. This means that they are looking towards the future and planning ahead. Let’s take a look at what the EV G-Wagen might look like.

Mercedes-Benz EQG Has Futuristic Interior

The inside is bound to be a first-class experience. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG is a spacious, well-designed space. It seats five people without any problems, but there is no third row for now. The Dashboard is fully digital, which enables easier tracking of information. Infotainment is a large 14-inch touchscreen, big enough for everyone to join the fun.

There is a sunroof and a lot of chrome and wooden details along the cabin. There will be Mercedes-Benz’s own hands-free driving software. It will be interesting to see how many of the pre-mapped roads will be available. But we are sure this cabin is a state-of-the-art creation.

Odd Exterior Design

It does look like a classic G-Wagen. It is a bit blocky, but just enough to not affect aerodynamics and ergonomics. This design has stood the test of time and is much sought after. Big 18-inch lightweight rims are used for wheels. We expect beefy tires since it’s an all-terrain vehicle.

The exterior of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG will be in two colors. It remains to be seen which colors will be on offer. The front fascia is modernized; no air intakes and mesh, but a lot of LED bars and circular headlights.

What About Performance?

One thing all Mercedes-Benz vehicles have in common is incredible and highly sought-after powertrains. When you buy a vehicle from them, you get a reliable and long-lasting engine. But times are changing and it is time to let go of the traditional internal combustion engine. By the year 2030, new emission regulations are coming in to cut pollution and save the environment. The automotive industry will be greatly affected. This means everyone is racing to switch to a hybrid or fully electric powertrain. For this reason, Mercedes is going with the new EQG as an electric-only variant.

They will borrow the powertrain from the EQS sedan. This means a brand-new platform is needed for the SUV to accommodate all the components. The EQG 580 will have a dual electric motor setup. Together, they will produce over 520 horsepower by utilizing the 108-kWh battery pack. We would have hoped that the battery would be a bit bigger, but the engineers are claiming this is more than enough. The range on the EQS 580 is 480 miles, which is going to translate well to the bigger EQG.

Hopefully the number doesn’t drop under 400 miles because the numbers so far are much better than the competitors. It has all-wheel drive since the EQG is an all-terrain SUV. It needs 4.3 seconds from zero to sixty. There is also going to be an AMG performance model with 761 horsepower. The charging port for all the SUV models will be a 200-kW fast charging port. Overall, the powertrain is capable and offers a lot of power to those who choose the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG.

Driving Range

As already mentioned, the powertrain will be borrowed from a smaller SUV. But the larger 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG will be heavier and more difficult to move. So, we expect a drop from 480 miles, but hopefully not too big. Increasing the battery pack might be needed to offer a better range for the upcoming EQG.

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG Release Date and Price

The much-tooted SUV is expected to arrive in the summer of 2023. This is just in time to compete with other upcoming EV SUVs. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG is estimated at around $150,000. A hefty price, but a good bang for your buck considering what you get.
