Big news from Hyundai, as its Kona model is about to introduce lots of improvements. From what we know, new 2024 Hyundai Kona will gain better performance, new design, refreshed interior, and a lot more. Kona is a small crossover SUV and it is on the run since 2017. Currently, the second generation is present, providing a youthful appearance, sporty vibe, and lots of uniqueness.
Besides conventional engines with internal combustion, there is also the Kona EV model with an all-electric powertrain. Hybrid is also available, so, Kona is a complete package. Some parts are looking cheap and aging, but, hopefully, the 2024MY will remove those issues.
Hyundai Kona Exterior Redesign
The upcoming 2024 Hyundai Kona will wear a significantly refreshed design. New styling looks sharper and very modern. And while Kona will remain a subcompact crossover SUV, this model will actually grow in size. From what we know, Hyundai Kona will have a longer wheelbase, by 2.3 inches. Furthermore, the next model will be 171.2 inches long and 71.9 inches wide.
That is 5.7 inches longer than it is now. On top of that, Kona will gain new 17-inch tires and it will be 62.2 inches tall. With all those improvements, Kona will from now on provide more interior room. Officially, these improvements are for the regular and hybrid versions, so Kona EV should be similar, if not the same in terms of size. It is important to say that all three variants will sit on the same platform.
Interior Changes
The interior of the 2024 Hyundai Kona will also change. For a start, this small crossover SUV will gain improved cabin room, especially in terms of rear-seat legroom and cargo space. When you fold the rear seats, the Kona model will provide 25.5 cubic feet of space. Moreover, shift-by-wire gear will open up additional space up front. Hyundai will offer dual 12.3-inch displays.
However, dual-screen will be available in upper trim levels. The Korean manufacturer will also add wireless charging, new infotainment, additional safety aids, and more upscale materials. Lastly, Hyundai says that the new Kona will have the best should room in the segment.
Kona and Kona Electric Specs
Like the outgoing model, new 2024 Hyundai Kona will offer a couple of powertrain options. Everything starts with the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 147 horsepower. This unit comes with a CVT automatic transmission. There is an optional 1.6-liter engine available. This engine powers the N Line model and it will develop 195 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, we don’t know which gearbox will be available, but the current model offers a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Some rumors are saying that the Kona N will from now on produce 285 hp, which is quite an improvement. A hybrid powertrain is also an option, and it should be available in the United States. Kona Hybrid combines a 1.6-liter engine with an electric motor. Lastly, Kona Electric will be the highlight, but Hyundai is yet to announce official details about this model.
2024 Hyundai Kona Price and Release Date
Right now, the price of the 2024 Hyundai Kona is a mystery. New model will cost around $25,000 or slightly above that, given the number of upgrades. The sales will begin later in 2023, and the U.S.-spec Kona will be available in the first quarter of 2024.
