The upcoming 2022 Mazda MX-30 is on the way and it is the brand’s first-ever hybrid SUV. According to reports, a new MX-30 is in the works and will be unveiled later this year. Aside from an electric motor/generator, the new SUV will also have a plug-in hybrid option. The MX-30 would have the same dimensions as the CX-3 and CX-30 crossovers.
Furthermore, it will have more appealing styling and one of the best interiors in the segment. Japanese manufacturer recently revealed that the MX-30 crossover would be equipped with a 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 144-hp front-mounted electric motor. Pre-orders have already started in Europe, while pre-orders for the United States are expected to begin this fall.
2022 MX-30 Looks Both Sporty and Elegant
While having the same 173-inch length as the new CX-30 model, the upcoming 2022 Mazda MX-30 looks a bit different. The CX-30 has a more refined appearance, while the MX-30 variant will look more rugged and aggressive. This new crossover also has a sloping roof and a rear-hinged door, giving it a sportier appearance.
Surprisingly, the MX-30 is built on a revamped CX-30 chassis that can house a battery beneath the floor. Overall, the side profile and rear section are almost identical to those of the CX-30. The MX-30, on the other hand, comes with more appealing wheels and taillight graphics that are far more visually appealing.
Although several details are still unknown, the forthcoming 2022 Mazda MX-30 will have a cabin identical to the CX-30 model. This compact hybrid crossover combines a futuristic approach with realistic features and a practical cabin with a good level of comfort. Actually, the current crossover has the same seating configuration as the CX-30. It has two rows of seats and room for five occupants.
We like distinctive interior design, as this crossover is primarily inspired by the RX-8 model. The updated MX-30 has rear-hinged doors, a unique dashboard, and upright upholstery. A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, while the second display sits on the dash. Mazda promised a lot of standard features, but we are still waiting to hear more details.
Driving Range, Charging Time
As we already said, the new 2022 Mazda MX-30 comes with an electric motor that develops around 144 horsepower. The motor is front-mounted, so we can’t confirm the all-wheel-drive setup just yet. The MX-30 crossover also adds a 35.5-kWh battery pack. The battery will provide around 100 miles of driving range on a single charge.
The latest reports are predicting a much better and larger battery for the MX-30 model in the United States. Not all of the specs are available, but MX-30 won’t be as efficient as Chevy Bolt EUV or Hyundai Kona EV. Mazda said the battery can be charged both via regular AC and faster DC chargers. A plug-in hybrid variant is happening as well and it will be a combination of the rotary engine and electric motor.
2022 Mazda MX-30 Price, Release Date
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 will firstly arrive in Europe, and the pre-orders already started. The US-spec variant will arrive this fall. Mazda promised an affordable price, so we expect the all-new MX-30 crossover will cost around $30,000.
