The next-gen 2022 BMW X1 is almost ready to hit the dealerships. This small crossover SUV was spied a couple of days ago. New X1 model looks refreshed and it will introduce a lot of improvements. The X1 SUV is present for over a decade and it has already introduced a couple of redesigns. Now, the new-gen model is coming so we are expecting another redesign.
According to various reports, BMW will reveal a new generation in the first quarter next year. The highlight of the 2022MY is the all-electric version. Of course, some parts of the puzzle are still missing but we expect to see exciting updates. While we are waiting for the official info, BMW already promised both a combustion engine and an all-electric powertrain.
BMW X1 Spy Photos
The upcoming 2022 BMW X1 was spied with the heavy camouflage. We already saw few batches of spy photos and the latest images are revealing a bit more. From what we know, the new X1 will be slightly larger than the outgoing model. Moreover, the exterior looks more rugged. The X1 SUV will ride on the modified BMW’s front-wheel-drive platform.
However, AWD setup will be optional. BMW will also introduce high-riding variant and much more. The front fascia looks bolder, with the more aggressive headlights and more upright kidney grille. Still, most of the exterior is still a mystery. Anyway, we expect a complete exterior redesign from the German manufacturer.
Interior Revamp
Thanks to the slightly larger proportions, the new-gen 2022 BMW X1 will provide more interior room. We don’t expect drastic improvements in terms of cabin space, but this should be more than enough. Again, spy photos are not showing interior updates. However, we know the dashboard will be updated as we expect two digital screens.
A new infotainment system is in the works, along with the new driver-assistance aids. The 2022 X1 will also provide more standard equipment. Anything we write about the cabin redesign would be speculation. On the other hand, reliable reports are predicting interior revamp. That includes new upholstery, additional chrome accents, and more intuitive controls.
Engine
The next-generation 2022 BMW X1 will probably continue to offer a 2.0-liter turbo-four gasoline engine with 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Indeed, BMW promised traditional gasoline and diesel engines. However, the highlight of this generation will be the all-electric powertrain option.
At this moment, we don’t have info about this version. It is the iX1 model that will reportedly arrive with great performances and an impressive driving range. The manufacturer will reveal more details in the coming months.
2022 BMW X1 Release Date, Competition
The production of the 2022 BMW X1 will take place at the brand’s Regensburg plant in Germany. Reliable reports are predicting the first quarter of 2022 as the most likely release date. The price will start higher than before, but exact pricing info is not available yet. The X1 model will continue to rival small crossovers and SUVs such as Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Lexus UX, and Audi Q3.
