2021 Subaru Outback: Hybrid, Release Date

The upcoming 2021 Subaru Outback will receive plenty of interesting upgrades. Outback rides on its sixth generation, and it is classified as a midsize SUV. However, Outback is a model that is more suited for something between small and mid-size segment. For 2021, Outback will introduce a hybrid powertrain, which is the highlight of the new model.

For that reason, Subaru will modify its rigid platform, but dimensions should remain. It is an off-road capable SUV that provides a high level of comfort and more than enough high-tech features. Outback will compete with Ford Edge, Honda Passport, and Hyundai Santa Fe. However, the 2020 Outback arrived with a redesign, so we can expect mid-cycle refreshments for 2021.

2021 Outback Gets Mid-Cycle Facelift

The all-new 2021 Subaru Outback will gain a couple of minor updates. Moreover, a hybrid version will look exactly the same. Thanks to the redesign in 2020, the upcoming 2021 Outback won’t change that much. We are dealing with small exterior tweaks. Modified taillights are the most notable change. The grille is slightly larger than before, and headlights are slightly reshaped.

This SUV offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance. The Global Platform will be modified, and it is the biggest change. The new architecture can accommodate a hybrid system, so that is the main reason for such a radical change.

Interior Gets More Modern Features

The interior will get a couple of updates too, but it is the high-tech updates only. The 2021 Subaru Outback will also gain more standard equipment. The Japanese automaker will also raise the level of comfort inside the cabin. Most likely, Subaru will opt for more upright materials. There are 30 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats. Fold the rear seats, and you will get up to 76 cubic feet of space.

Outback is available with a standard 7-inch touchscreen, and a new model will gain a simpler interface and quicker response. New driver-assistance features are in the offer, but most of them will be optional in the base trim level. That includes auto emergency braking, active lane control, and blind-spot monitors. Upper trim levels will arrive with more premium interior, including leather upholstery and automatic climate controls.

New Engine Available, Hybrid Powertrain is Official

At this moment, Outback SUV uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It is a powertrain option that delivers 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. A 3.6-liter engine is optional, but it won’t be available for 2021. Instead, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder comes as a replacement. It is a turbocharged engine with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. A CVT transmission is available as standard and AWD setup will be optional once again.

As for the hybrid powertrain, Outback SUV will most likely deploy one of the available engines. The combination with electric motors will deliver over 250 hp and almost 300 lb-ft of torque. The new model will arrive with over 35 mpg combined, which is great.  However, we are still waiting for the Japanese manufacturer to release official details.

2021 Subaru Outback Price and Release Date

The price of the all-new 2021 Subaru Outback will start at $27,000. On the other hand, the hybrid version won’t cost below $32,000. The sales will begin later in 2020, most likely around November. As we said, Outback will compete with Honda Passport, Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe.
