2021 Subaru Ascent Gets Minor Changes, Hybrid is Still a Rumor

The Japanese manufacturer is working on ways to improve its complete lineup of SUVs and crossovers. One of the models that should get various refreshments is the upcoming 2021 Subaru Ascent. It is a mid-size SUV that manages good sales at the moment. There is no reason for Subaru to not be optimistic about its Ascent SUV.

Ascent offers a room for seven people and it looks very modern and attractive. Moreover, it is a strong performer and it will surely benefit from the latest upgrades. However, this SUV is almost brand-new so don’t expect redesign or anything similar. Subaru will deliver mid-cycle updates and nothing more than that.

2021 Subaru Ascent changes

2021 Ascent Exterior Changes

The arriving model will gain a couple of modest upgrades. For a start, new 2021 Subaru Ascent will arrive with power-folding mirrors and new integrated turn signals. Both features will be offered as standard on the base trim level. Bodywork, design, vehicle’s dimensions, and shape will largely remain.

However, Subaru will provide more aluminum which makes the vehicle lighter than before. Moreover, this move will help Ascent to provide better fuel efficiency. 18-inch wheels are standard new power gate function is optional. The front fascia will get small refinements and will look sharper than on the current model.

Interior Refinements

The interior of the 2021 Subaru Ascent will only get technology updates. That means the rest of the interior will remain. Ascent is a mid-size SUV with a room for seven. Optionally, you can get eight seats and the interior is as practical as before. More importantly, Ascent is a roomy SUV with 86.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The interior is modern, even the base trim level is more than equipped.

However, the 2021 Ascent will get even more standard features, mostly driver-assistance aids. On the other hand, some safety systems will be optional. The infotainment system is also getting an update. Cloth upholstery is standard and popular All-Weather package is available once again.

The Engine is Unchanged but Hybrid is a Possibility

Under the hood, the upcoming 2021 Subaru Ascent will stay intact. That means the mid-size SUV once again offers a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This drivetrain is capable of producing 260 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. The engine returns 23 mpg combined and it can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Ascent provides 8.7 inches of ground clearance so off-roading adventures are a possibility with Ascent.

Engine noise is still the main issue but generally, the ride is smooth and quiet in the city. As for the hybrid option, it is a mystery at the moment. Subaru will surely provide hybrid powertrain at some point but no one knows when. Ascent Hybrid could borrow technology from Crosstrek SUV but this is just a speculation.
