Porsche started its electric journey last summer with a new Taycan model. Taycan is the first, but surely not the last all-electric model. The upcoming 2021 Porsche Macan will arrive next year and it will feature the same electrification. Macan is a popular SUV and it seems to be a perfect candidate for this innovative powertrain option. Moreover, the new Macan will be the next-gen model.
So, besides the fully electric powertrain, Macan will get a complete redesign. Additionally, the interior will surely suffer plenty of refinements. The new model has been spied a couple of days ago. Those photos are the proof we needed and now we will surely see the new-generation Porsche Macan on the streets. BMW is also releasing its all-electric X3 SUV so it will be interesting to see a newly-formed competition.
2021 Macan Spy Shots
The next-gen 2021 Porsche Macan is still in the early stages of development. It wears the same body as the current generation. However, we were able to spot the latest cosmetic tweaks. In the back, Macan definitely looks different. Even the side profile is changed, especially lower parts of the doors. Upfront, bumper hosts larger air intakes. Of course, gasoline version in on the spy photos so we can’t tell how the all-electric version will look like.
According to reliable reports, gasoline-powered Macan will ride on the same platform that underpins next-gen Audi Q5. Current Macan rides on the first-gen Q5’s architecture. That means besides the exterior redesign, the new platform is also happening. Dimensional changes are another possibility but don’t expect drastic changes.
2021 Porsche Macan EV
Once the 2021 Porsche Macan arrives, it will feature an all-electric powertrain. According to reliable experts, Macan EV will provide up to 700 horsepower. It is a similar path that Porsche Taycan had. The electric version will ride on Volkswagen’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform. It is the architecture that started the evolution of the Taycan SUV as well.
Now, it is time for Macan to get similar upgrades and it will also provide around 750 lb-ft of torque. Porsche will most likely offer different trim levels with different driving ranges. Surely, the range-topping trim will provide the best mileage and it will offer a standard AWD system. Lastly, entry-level models will provide around 245 miles.
As we already wrote, the gasoline-powered version will get new architecture, shared with next-gen Audi Q5. The 2021 Porsche Macan will most likely keep its engine lineup. For Europe, it is a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with 245 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.
As for the Macan S variant, it will use a 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine. This output has been rated at 355 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. Macan Turbo is currently the most powerful version that offers 400 horses and 406 lb-ft of twisting power.
Price and Release Date
We have no doubts that the all-electric version will cost significantly more than the gasoline-powered Macan. However, the price of the 2021 Porsche Macan is not available yet. Currently, the base model starts at $50,000.
Moreover, you can get Macan Turbo for around $80,000. That clearly suggests the all-electric version that will cost maybe over $100,000. Porsche will introduce next-gen Macan in the first quarter of 2021.
