2021 Mazda CX-5: Changes, Release Date

The forthcoming 2021 Mazda CX-5 is set for another mid-cycle facelift. This compact crossover will arrive with a couple of interesting updates. However, most of the design largely remains. The latest updates are visible, but all of them are far from significant.

Even the interior design will remain, but the interior will gain more high-tech features. If you want real luxury, the CX-5 Signature trim level is available. Mazda said the goal is to deliver slightly better fuel efficiency, and even a diesel drivetrain will be in the offer. The sales will start later in 2020.

2021 CX-5 Facelift

The upcoming 2021 Mazda CX-5 will wear the brand’s recognizable KODO design language. However, changes are far from drastic. The 2021 model will wear the same styling as the outgoing CX-5 crossover. Improvements are minor. For instance, the grille wears more chrome accents. The taillights are smaller than before, which is exciting.

The rear bumper looks more stylish, but 17-inch alloy wheels will remain a standard option. Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover and is 179.1 inches long. Moreover, this model is 72.5 inches wide. It comes with 8.2 inches of ground clearance and ride quality is excellent.

Interior Updates

In terms of interior design, things are the same. However, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 will introduce more tech features. Still, it is one of the best cabin designs in the segment without any doubts. Mazda provides plenty of high-quality materials, and the comfort is admirable. As we said, the Signature trim level provides real luxury, and it looks incredible on the inside. The interior is driver-oriented and base trim level offers standard cloth upholstery.

It is a mix of cloth materials and soft leather to be more precise. The CX-5 crossover provides room for five people, but the headroom is far from the best-in-segment. On the other hand, the legroom is ample, even in the back. Cargo area with folded rear seats delivers 60 cubic feet of space. The new infotainment system and additional safety aids will be offered in 2021.

Engine Lineup Includes Diesel

New 2021 Mazda CX-5 will offer both gasoline and diesel engines. A 2.5-liter gasoline is standard once again. This unit is capable of producing 187 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, but this engine is standard on all trim levels.

However, in China, new Mazda CX-5 will get a 2.5-liter turbo-four with 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of twisting power. The same engine powers the CX-9 variant. As for the diesel powertrain, it is a 2.2-liter output, and it generates 170 horsepower. On top of that, diesel offers 310 lb-ft of torque.

2021 Mazda CX-5 Release Date and Price

The arriving crossover will get a small price increase. That means the 2021 Mazda CX-5 will now cost $26,500. We think the price is still affordable. Moreover, the Touring trim level starts at $28,500 and Grand Touring at $34,000.

Lastly, the Signature trim level is the range-topping model, and it costs over $40,000. New CX-5 will compete with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V models. The sales will start in China, later in 2020. The customers in the US will have to wait for the first quarter of 2021.
