The all-new 2021 Hyundai Kona has been spied for the first time. Many reports predicted the new-gen Kona, however, that will not happen. The spy shots are showing mid-cycle refreshments. Whatsoever, Kona is a relatively new model on the market and it was introduced in 2018 in the U.S. This crossover could get a high-performance version for 2021 as well.
We don’t know why South Korean manufacturer put so much camouflage for regular mid-cycle refreshments. Besides exterior changes, Kona will gain small interior modifications as well. As for the performance, Kona offers both gasoline and diesel engines. Moreover, Kona Electric is also available.
2021 Kona Spy Shots
Again, we are surprised by the amount of camouflage. After all, a new 2021 Hyundai Kona is getting mid-cycle updates. On the other hand, something similar happened to Kia Rio that has arrived as a basically all-new model. Despite heavy camo, a prototype is showing the latest upgrades, most of them to be precise. This crossover will arrive with the unchanged front fascia or its layout.
You can expect minor changes such as new grille pattern and updated headlights. Additionally, the sleeker design is more than visible. Aerodynamics are improved, Kona will get a new set of wheels and front bumper is larger. Apart from that, Hyundai will offer new exterior paints: Ceramic Blue, Pulse Red, and Galactic Grey. Once again, the two-tone exterior scheme will be optional.
The all-new 2021 Hyundai Kona will surely get a couple of interior updates as well. However, the spy shots are not showing interior details. Current Kona comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen. Moreover, USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are all available. South Korean manufacturer could offer a new 8-inch display, besides the existing 10.25-inch center stack display.
We can’t tell if the cabin will get changes in terms of design or layout. On the other hand, you can count on new driver-assistance features and updated Safety Package. Whatsoever, Kona is one of the models with the highest possible safety ratings.
Gasoline Engine Specs and Kona Electric
According to numerous reports, a new 2021 Hyundai Kona will get its first high-performance version. For that reason, you can expect more efficient engines in the coming months. The latest addition was a hybrid powertrain. Kona Hybrid is using a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Total output delivers 139 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque.
As for the regular Kona crossover, it will deploy a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 hp and 123 lb-ft of twisting power. This model provides fuel economy of 27/33 mpg (FWD), 26/30 mpg (AWD). A 7-speed CVT transmission is relatively new and it is available once again. Lastly, Kona Electric is available too and it delivers 292 miles of driving range.

The upcoming 2021 Hyundai Kona will cost around $27,000. This crossover will introduce a couple of refreshments so a higher price makes perfect sense. Kona Electric will cost over $37,000 and Hyundai will release its new model later this year.
