2021 Genesis GV80 is New Mid-Size Luxury SUV

The upcoming 2021 Genesis GV80 will arrive at the beginning of 2020. The manufacturer is finally turning the concept into a production model. We saw the same concept in 2017 at the New York Auto Show. Recently, a couple of low-resolution spy photos leaked on Instagram. It is the first look at the company’s newest SUV.

As we can see in the photos, Genesis upgraded its styling, and it will also deliver all-new exterior features. The images were taken in one of Hyundai’s storage facilities. The interior is also visible, and it provides new design cues that also depart from the rest of the Genesis’ models. Under the hood, we can expect potent and reliable V6, along with the plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Exterior Leaked On Instagram

As the latest photos are showing, the design of the 2021 Genesis GV80 will slightly depart from the GV80 concept. The Genesis’ styling is different than on the rest of the company’s vehicles. It is another step forward for the carmaker. Transforming concept into a production model is a hard task, so everything makes perfect sense. The headlights are bigger which didn’t come as a surprise.

After all, the concept’s headlamps were too small. The front grille has also grown in size. The new appearance is similar to the design of the recently-updated G90 model. As for the dimensions, there are the same as on the concept. The rear part hosts a couple of significant modifications. The rear lights are bigger and are stretching into the quarter panels.

Interior Details

New Instagram photos are also showing interior pictures. For a start, the 2021 Genesis GV80 comes with a taller center console that separates the front two seats. An electronic dial sits in front of the driver, and the driver can shift gears with ease. Furthermore, a round touchpad is available next to the numerous buttons in front of the passenger’s seat.

The dashboard hosts the infotainment system, and navigation is really easy to use. Upper trim levels will get a digital instrument cluster that is also driver-configurable. However, base models will arrive with traditional analog gauges.

Reliable V6 Engine and Other Powertrain Possibilities

Just like the next-gen G80 model, the new 2021 Genesis GV80 will also arrive as rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Whatsoever, two models are sharing the same platform. On top of that, the two will share numerous mechanical components, and that includes the V6 engine. Genesis won’t wait for the V8 engine to evolve, so the reliable V6 was the only option.

Now we know that, an eight-cylinder powertrain will have to wait a little longer. However, a plug-in hybrid variant is a possibility. The PHEV version will likely join the powertrain lineup, but you’ll have to wait for 2022. AWD system is available, and it is optional. On some trim levels, AWD setup will come as standard.
